About
Across Seedrs, various “checkout” journeys handle everything from paying for investments, purchasing shares on the secondary market, depositing funds, and withdrawals.
The problem
Each of these journeys were build independently and vary slightly in terms of function and style (there is no consistent behavior between them) and they are built on an outdated architecture which makes it difficult to update if and when new features are needed.
The goals
Design a new modular checkout journey that can handle all existing user requirements providing a more consistent user experience and putting the product in a better place for further improvements and features.
The process
The first step was to conduct some user interviews in order to identify a few opportunities to make some improvements to the journey to relieve some pain points and reduce drop-off. Once we had a clear direction we knew we could head onto the next step which was to commit some solutions to wireframes.
Once we had the main journeys wired out the next step was to then map out the current flows (and varients based on location and payment providers) and identify similarities in behaviors so that we could locate any opportunities to create common reusable components. This was also a good opportunity to liaise with the developers to understand what was possible before committing to high-fidelity designs.
Final UI Designs
Below are some of the final screens that were created for the Seedrs checkout

Outcome
We were able to produce a library of modules that could utilised to cover a wide variety of scenarios. Allowing us to maintain the health of the checkout a lot more effectively while also removing pain points at key areas of the journey.
One of the key signs of success was that we were able to design and build a specialised checkout journey to support a new offering within a week.
